(Posted by Cathy DuBois) In this third Blog in the series in our search for living in a more conscious way, I have introduced the concept of “Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in the workplace.” Please read my last 2 Blogs to catch-up with our discussion. (For convenience a link to the most-previous post is at the bottom of this page.) Since becoming more conscious means that we are noticing how we live, who we can trust, and how we have been effected by our choices we need to understand this topic more deeply. So let’s take a look at the second point for this series as I tell you how working has effected my mental health:
Places of business can be run in ways that actually cause PTSD.
It seemed that no matter what company I worked for, big or small, rich or not so rich, the bullies will generally be front and center. I have been constantly amazed by how being a bully actually pays off in a lot of ways and is probably why it happens with such regularity. Bullies recognize their own and they have a pecking order. They look after and reward other members of their gang. All of them are also card carrying, unhealed, Post Traumatic Stress Victims. Someone had to teach them to be a victim. Someone also had to reward them for acting out. They cover their PTSD by passing it along to others in various unhealthy ways. Most would be shocked if you told them you feel for their wounds for these are buried deeply in their psyche never to see the light of day.
I worked for a health-related company who had a woman CEO. I was the accountant hired by the CFO. As the new hire, I was the person who got all the grief, again. But I was a lot smarter now. After a particularly unpleasant and undeserved tongue lashing by this bully, I got up from my workstation and spoke clearly and loudly “If you ever treat me like this again we will meet at my attorneys office!” Other people heard this exchange including the CFO and HR department who let her run roughshod over them as well. No mention of this was ever made to me and she stopped her vile behavior. She was fired not very long after this encounter because the whole world now knew she was a fraud. Very bad press for the Bully Club, I am guessing!
We will continue this discussion of PTSD in the Workplace on the next Blog, so be sure and sign up with your email so you don’t miss a thing.
…..to be continued.
In this Blog series, I will be explaining to you how these 7 things have impacted my working life and how you can spot when this process is affecting yours. If you are working with others it will affect you at some point. This is an interesting and much needed discussion. Traumatized people pretty much run the world. If you have noticed this at all, then this discussion will help you understand how that came to be and what must happen for it to stop impacting our ability to awaken and grow fully conscious. I will offer some personal experiences I have lived through that will help you understand this topic so you can easily apply this information to your own working life.
When you become
conscious that this is actually a process and not a destination, each new
