(Posted by Cathy DuBois) We have just finished a 7 part review of the grieving process which brings us to the next phase of living in a conscious way. Whenever the human being is subjected to a shocking experience there can be a deep psychological recording of that event. This recording can be “remembered” and “connected” to various other random events a person may experience which then builds up a complex of emotional baggage which will create ongoing problems. This is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in a nutshell. This is a very serious issue and the fact that the workplace is a hotbed for such problems to grow is not generally discussed.
This is a very generic explanation for PTSD as I want to keep these articles down to earth and easily understood. There are tons of information on the web so please do more research of this topic. But for my Blog today the points I would make include the following:
- Just being employed and being around people can factor into this disorder in many ways.
- Places of business can be run in ways that actually cause PTSD.
- Bosses and Supervisors can be affected with PTSD and just pass it along by making other people their scapegoats.
- Employees “tip-toe” around their boss or other co-workers because any little thing might “set them off.”
- Employees who suffer from PTSD going in will be a magnet for any additional trauma.
- The very nature of the work you do can bring on this problem.
- Places of work are not generally equipped to properly identify this issue so cannot be relied upon to help you navigate through to wellness.
In this Blog series, I will be explaining to you how these 7 things have impacted my working life and how you can spot when this process is affecting yours. If you are working with others it will affect you at some point. This is an interesting and much needed discussion. Traumatized people pretty much run the world. If you have noticed this at all, then this discussion will help you understand how that came to be and what must happen for it to stop impacting our ability to awaken and grow fully conscious. I will offer some personal experiences I have lived through that will help you understand this topic so you can easily apply this information to your own working life.
When you become
